Whitbread HQ Office Refurbishment

BSML were appointed to carry out a multi-phase refurbishment of Whitbread’s Head Office in Bedfordshire which started in November 2018. The project was to be carried out across 3 floors in 3 Buildings which included office space, stairwells, meeting rooms and Kitchens. The majority of works were to be done out of hours due to the Head Office still being fully functional.

The 1st phase consisted of removal of existing walls and meeting rooms to create more work friendly areas throughout the 3 buildings. We would then install new walls, power supplies and decorate each floor out of hours prior to commencing works on phase 2.

Phase 2 was to remove all existing flooring from each floor in the 3 Buildings over 9 weekends and replace with new Milliken Nordic Noir Carpet tiles and Karndean vinyl tiles. The problems faced during this phase was that all furniture was in situ and needed to be completed to a very stringent program which we successfully completed.

Phase 3 consisted of the installation of 8 new kitchenettes on each office floor. New water and power supplies were required to the rear of each area where new Hydro Taps and Howdens Kitchens would be installed. We then install new Karndean flooring and decorated the area.

Phase 4 involved the refurbishment of 6 stairwells to modernise them from the existing brass and Marble finish to new light and vibrant areas. We installed new Feature LED lighting, MF ceilings with timber pelmets, Milliken Nordic Nir Carpet tiles and finally decorated to give them the finish the client required.

Phase 5 was the final phase of the project and consisted of the design and construction of a new media suite, drinks testing room and refurbishment of Whitbread’s development kitchen. Included in this phase was installation of new mechanical/electrical/HVAC systems, folding walls, ceilings, flooring and new Kitchen units. On completion this area can now be used for creating and advertising all Whitbread products in a new comfortable and functioning area.

The full project was completed on time and within budget, and without incident. The client is also very happy with the final outcome.
